KITTEC CBG Classic-Line gas top-loading kilns in 4 versions up to 1320 °C
The gas top loaders of the KITTEC CBG Classic-Line were developed for ceramicists who want to use the special possibilities of gas firing while relying on robust, practical kiln technology. The range is particularly suited to reduction firings, high temperature glaze firings and any application that calls for even temperature distribution and targeted control of the kiln atmosphere. With a maximum firing temperature of 1320 °C, the CBG models are ideal for stoneware, porcelain and demanding glaze firings.
The KITTEC CBG gas kilns are built in small batches and offer very good value for money. As standard, the kilns come with burners for propane/butane; a version for natural gas is available as an option. A key quality feature of this range is the downdraft flame path. It ensures particularly even temperature distribution throughout the firing chamber and creates the best conditions for high quality firing results.
All models come as standard with a very finely adjustable high performance burner system, adjustable chimney cover bricks for manual reduction control, a battery powered temperature display and a CO alarm. The lid is supported by a gas spring and opens well beyond 90° for loading. KITTEC gives up to 3 years of warranty on the kilns. The CBG range also carries a quality assurance test seal.
How do the KITTEC CBG models differ within the range?
Within the CBG Classic-Line, all models work on the same basic principle: they are gas heated top loaders for propane/butane or optionally natural gas, reach up to 1320 °C and are designed for even firing results in ceramics. The differences therefore lie not in the basic kiln technology but mainly in volume, output, number of burners and area of use.
The CBG 90 is the most compact model in the range. It is particularly suited to smaller studios, smaller loads or users who want the advantages of a gas kiln without setting up a very large kiln straight away. The CBG 90 works with one burner and an output of 20 kW.
The CBG 160, CBG 210 and CBG 280 are the larger versions of the range. They have two burners with 40 kW output and are designed for larger firing chambers, bigger loads and more regular work. This makes them particularly well suited to workshops, schools or studios that fire more often and in larger volumes.
In short: the CBG 90 is the more compact solution for smaller quantities and limited space, while the larger models offer more capacity, more output and therefore more reserves for regular use. At the same time, reduction firings require some firing experience, because they cannot always be reproduced exactly. For many ceramicists, though, that is exactly what makes gas firing so appealing.
The KITTEC CBG Classic-Line is available in 4 versions:
- CBG 90: 90 liters
- CBG 160: 160 liters
- CBG 210: 210 liters
- CBG 280: 280 liters
You will find a detailed comparison of the technical data of all models in the table with the product images.

Optional accessories
-
ESP energy saving package: Additional insulation reduces heat loss and energy consumption, also available as an option for the CBG range.
-
Firing set: Cordierite kiln shelves and sillimanite kiln posts for several levels, for the best use of space in the kiln.
-
Firing curve controller for propane or natural gas: A semi automatic firing curve controller is available on request (in the variant selection above). It allows individually adjustable automatic firing curves and is particularly useful if you want recurring firings to be as reproducible as possible.
-
Natural gas burner system: As standard, the kilns come with propane/butane burners. A natural gas version is available as an option. A compressor is required to operate the natural gas burner system.
-
Peephole with plug: The peephole at the front of the body lets you watch the ware during firing.
-
Two cylinder adapter: A two cylinder adapter is available as an option for connecting two gas cylinders.
-
Oxygen probe: An oxygen probe for measuring the kiln atmosphere is available as an option.
-
230 V power adapter: A power adapter for the temperature display is available as an option.
-
Leveling feet: Leveling feet compensate for uneven floors so the kiln stands securely.
-
Transport castors: Transport castors are available as an option; two of the four castors have a locking brake.
-
Further options: Versions up to 1350 °C or 1400 °C as well as custom builds are also possible on request.
Temperature display and firing curve controller
The KITTEC CBG Classic-Line comes as standard with a battery powered temperature display, so you can reliably monitor the firing as it progresses.
On request, a semi automatic firing curve controller for propane or natural gas including the TC 75 is also available. It lets you run individually adjustable automatic firing curves. Automatic control of the oxygen content is not included, however.
For many users, the appeal of gas firing lies precisely in deliberately controlling the flame, draft and reduction atmosphere by hand. If you want recurring firings to be somewhat more reproducible, you can configure the kiln with the matching firing curve controller.
