Rectangular Kiln Shelves

Rectangular cordierite kiln shelves for ceramic kilns of all makes. Together with kiln posts, you can build several levels in your kiln and fit more ware into one firing.

The rectangular shape uses the space in square firing chambers better than round shelves, for example in front loaders or square top loaders. The smallest size also fits test kilns. For top loaders, take a look at our round kiln shelves.

Good to know

• Three posts: Place each kiln shelf on three posts only. More than three posts can create stress in the shelf that leads to breakage.
• Posts stacked: Place the posts of each level exactly above one another so that the weight is distributed evenly.
• Before first use: Coat new kiln shelves with kiln wash (either as a powder to mix or ready to use liquid from Botz) and fire them empty in a bisque firing. This relieves stress in the material, and glaze drips will not stick to the shelf later.
• Storage: Store the shelves standing upright.
• Check the size: Measure the inside of your kiln before ordering and leave some space all around to the kiln wall and the heating elements.
