Amaco SH-31 Cacao Gloss Shino
Cacao Gloss from Amaco's Shino series is a glossy glaze that shows beautifully varying transitions between warm beige and brown depending on the thickness of the application. When applied thinly, it appears more rust-brown, while thicker glazed areas create bolder shades of brown and beige. Reliefs and textures make the contrast between thinner and thicker areas particularly visible, while the glaze remains glossy after firing.
Amaco's Shino glazes are inspired by the simple, earthy aesthetic of Japanese tea bowls. In oxidation firing, they create a rich, iron-rich surface with the appearance of a reduction firing and accentuate both textured and smooth surfaces. They are suitable for both light and red clay bodies.
The matte and glossy variants of the series can be mixed with each other to achieve intermediate stages between matte and glossy. For more dynamic, complex effects, the Shino glazes can also be combined and layered with glazes from the Amaco Potter's Choice series.
