Amaco SH-21 Shino Acai Gloss

Acai Gloss from Amaco's Shino series is a glossy, vibrant glaze that displays wonderfully varying blue and brown tones depending on the thickness of the application. Applied thinly, it allows the warm, rust-brown base tone typical of the Shino series to shine through more prominently, while richer blue and brown tones develop in thicker glazed areas. On textured surfaces, the lively effect is further enhanced, while the glaze remains glossy after firing.

Amaco's Shino glazes are inspired by the simple, earthy aesthetic of Japanese tea bowls. In oxidation firing, they produce a rich, iron-rich surface with the appearance of a reduction firing and accentuate both textured and smooth surfaces. They are suitable for both light and red clay bodies.

The matte and glossy variants of the series can be mixed with each other to achieve gradations between matte and glossy. For more dynamic, complex effects, the Shino glazes can also be combined and layered with glazes from the Amaco Potter's Choice series.
