Amaco SH-11 Shino Chai Gloss

Chai Gloss from Amaco's Shino series is a glossy glaze that exhibits beautifully varying cream, orange, and brown tones depending on the application thickness. When applied thinly, the warm, rust-brown base tone is more prominent; in more thickly glazed areas, richer cream, orange, and brown tones develop. A textured surface further emphasizes the color variations, while the glaze remains glossy after firing.

Amaco's Shino glazes are inspired by the simple, earthy aesthetic of Japanese tea bowls. In oxidation firing, they create a rich, iron-rich surface with the look of a reduction fire and accentuate both textured and smooth surfaces. They are suitable for both light and red clay bodies.

The matte and glossy variants of the series can be mixed with one another to achieve intermediate finishes between matte and glossy. For more dynamic, complex effects, the Shino glazes can also be combined and layered with glazes from the Amaco Potter's Choice series.
