Amaco CR-41 Crawls Lime

Lime from Amaco's Crawls series is a glossy lime green glaze that intentionally crawls during firing, forming raised shapes of various sizes and forms. This creates a surface with unpredictable, natural patterns that give each piece a unique texture and appearance.

The Crawls glazes utilize an effect traditionally considered a defect: glaze crawling. During firing, the glaze pulls away, revealing the underlying clay body or a base glaze layer. Each firing thus produces a unique, spontaneous result.

The Crawls can be used alone or applied over underglazes and other Cone 5/6 glazes, particularly appealing over Amaco Celadon series glazes to create depth and contrast.

Processing

• Apply 1 to 4 coats to bisque fired at Cone 04
• Brushing glaze, apply with a brush
• Let each coat dry almost completely before applying the next
• For better adhesion, apply a thin layer of AMACO Gum Solution to the bisque before application
• For greater durability, apply over an Amaco Celadon glaze or an underglaze before firing
• The dried glaze forms fine hairline cracks and is fragile; handle pieces carefully before firing
• Due to natural fluctuations in raw materials, always fire a test piece with each new batch number
• Shake well and stir thoroughly before use

Note on food safety

The Crawls glazes are not food-safe when applied alone. If they are applied over an Amaco Celadon glaze, they are considered food-safe. For tableware and surfaces in contact with food, we therefore recommend always using the Crawls over a Celadon glaze.
