Pottery in Berlin: The comprehensive map of the Berlin ceramics scene with 46 locations

The Berlin ceramics scene has grown rapidly in recent years. From family-run backyard ateliers to large studios with eleven pottery wheels, you can now find at least one workshop in every district.

We at Formwerk Berlin Pottery Supplies have tried to summarize all relevant locations in the Berlin ceramics scene in one map – sorted by district and neighborhood, with an interactive map and all important information. This list is intended as a living map of the scene and is being continuously expanded. We currently have 46 studios, workshops, pottery suppliers, museums, and meeting points. As of 2026.

Legend for the ceramics scene map

  • Pottery studios with courses – workshops where you can book classes, workshops, or memberships.
  • Ceramic studios with retail – manufacturers and artist studios where you can buy finished pieces directly from the workshop.
  • Pottery supplies & equipment – providers for clay, tools, glazes, and kilns.

Interactive map: The Berlin ceramics scene. Tap on a marker for details. As of 2026 – we update continuously.

Many workshops belong to several categories at once – a studio may offer courses and sell its own pieces. In these cases, you will see multiple tags next to each other. Within each district, the locations are sorted alphabetically; we deliberately do not assign rankings here. Every entry in our selection has its own character, size, and strengths.

As a large district, Pankow encompasses not only Prenzlauer Berg itself but also Weißensee, the original Pankow, and smaller neighborhoods like the Bötzowviertel or Helmholtzplatz.

Originally a trained costume designer, she eventually channeled her enthusiasm for material, form, and design into a self-employed career in ceramics: a long-standing hobby became a professional studio. In addition to selling her own handmade pieces, there are courses for anyone who wants to work with clay themselves. Mitte, Wedding & Moabit

Berlin's central north has developed into a second hotspot for the ceramics scene in recent years. Around the "African Quarter" in Wedding (Kameruner, Togo-, and Lüderitzstraße), a veritable craft cluster has formed over the years, in which several potteries and manufactories work side by side. In addition, there are large, professionally equipped workshops in Moabit and Wedding that allow even experienced potters to have memberships and independent work, as well as small, very personally managed studios. We have compiled the studios across all three categories (courses, sales, supplies).

Neukölln

Neukölln is the epicenter of Berlin's young, international ceramics scene. Friedrichshain

Friedrichshain is perhaps less visible in the ceramics scene than Neukölln or Prenzlauer Berg – but the studios here each have a clear, distinct profile. In particular, the Samariterkiez area around Samariterstraße and Bänschstraße has become a small, dense ceramics cluster over the years, where several studios operate door-to-door and sometimes overlap in terms of staff. Alongside these, there is an ambitious studio-gallery near Strausberger Platz focusing on wood-ash glazes, an accessible workshop association near Ostkreuz, and quiet artist workshops tucked between the neighborhoods. The district is particularly well-suited for those looking for bilingual workshops, community structures, or a genuinely artistic approach to ceramics.

Charlottenburg & Wilmersdorf

The west of Berlin is often the overlooked part of the ceramics scene – yet this is where some of the city’s most experienced potters are found, working in quiet studios for decades, alongside modern studios with membership models and design-oriented workshops in old carriage houses and courtyards. Notable: Three of the studios listed here are located in the vicinity of Charlottenburg Palace in the streets around Danckelmann-, Knobelsdorff-, and Suarezstraße – a small, geographically dense western cluster that is easy to explore on foot. Charlottenburg also houses the Keramik-Museum Berlin at Schustehrusstraße 13 (the oldest preserved townhouse in Charlottenburg, located there since 2004) – worth a visit for anyone interested in design classics and the history of the material. Tip – Firing services in Berlin: Have you been potting at home but don't have your own kiln? Several studios offer an external firing service where you can drop off your pieces to be fired – including Ceramic Kingdom (Neukölln), Clayers Collective (Wedding), and P. & C. Studio Ceramics (Moabit). Pay attention to the respective guidelines regarding clay type, firing temperature, and glaze-free bases.

Tip – If you don't know which studio to choose yet: Before you commit to a single studio, it is worth taking a look at Craft Circle – there you will find pottery courses from various Berlin workshops bundled in one place, sortable by date, technique, and price. With just one membership there, you can visit all the studios. Similar to Urban Sports.

How to find the right pottery course for you

The choice is vast. So you don't book the first one you see and realize the format isn't right for you, here are a few guidelines based on our experience with course participants who later had their first pieces fired or processed with us.

Question 1: Potter's wheel or hand-building?
This is the most important decision beforehand. The wheel is fascinating but technically more demanding – the first few hours are often spent just learning how to center. Hand-building (slab building, coil building, pinch pot technique) yields a finished piece faster and is more meditative. Many studios offer both; some specialize.

Question 2: One-off workshop or multi-session course?
A taster workshop usually lasts 2–3 hours and gives you a first impression. A multi-session course (e.g., two dates: potting + glazing) is more useful if you really want to take something home. You only glaze your own pieces yourself at the second session.

Question 3: Small group or larger studio?
Smaller groups (3–5 people) mean more personal guidance and peace and quiet. Larger studios (8+ people) are often more vibrant, but sometimes more hectic, too. Both have their appeal.

Question 4: What does it cost?
Taster courses in Berlin usually range between €55 and €99, longer workshops including glazing between €85 and €150. Material and firing costs are sometimes included, sometimes extra (€5–10 per piece).

Question 5: What happens after the course?
Anyone who has worked with clay once often wants to continue. Many studios offer open workshop spaces where you can work independently after completing an introductory course (usually €15–25 per hour including material). Ask if this option is available before booking.

Those who really catch the bug and are thinking about continuing at home will find everything they need for getting started in our shop – from clay to kilns and the right tools. An overview of the most important purchases can be found in our article How expensive is pottery as a hobby?

Frequently asked questions about pottery studios in Berlin

How much does a pottery course in Berlin cost?
Taster courses usually start at €55–65 and last 2–3 hours. Multi-session workshops with glazing and firing service range between €85 and €150. Specialty courses (porcelain, Raku, sculptures) are generally more expensive.

How quickly are Berlin pottery courses booked up?
Popular studios are often booked out 1–3 months in advance, especially weekend taster courses. If you are flexible (weekday courses, smaller studios), you can usually find a spot at short notice.

Do I need prior knowledge?
For most beginner courses: no. For open workshop spaces, generally: yes – you usually have to have completed at least one introductory course at the same studio beforehand.

How do I pick up my pieces?
After the course, your pieces are dried, bisque-fired, glazed, and fired again – this takes 2–4 weeks in total. Most studios have fixed pickup days.

Can I just work in an open workshop without a course?
Theoretically yes – practically almost never. Almost all open workshops require you to have basic experience with clay. Some studios offer short introductory sessions that count as a prerequisite.

Where can I get clay, glazes, and tools in Berlin?
Classic local specialist retailers are Börkey Keratech (Wilmersdorf) and the ceramics shop of Hobbyshop Rüther (Schöneberg). You can get clay, glazes, tools, and kilns online and with personal advice in our Formwerk Pottery Supplies Berlin shop.

Where can I have my pieces fired if I don't have a kiln?
Several studios offer an external firing service, such as Ceramic Kingdom (Neukölln), Clayers Collective (Wedding), and P. & C. Studio Ceramics (Moabit). Hobbyshop Rüther also has a firing and glazing service. Check the guidelines regarding clay type and firing temperature beforehand.

Which studios are suitable for visitors to Berlin?
Many studios offer their courses bilingually. Especially recommended for English-speaking visitors are, among others, Good Clay Sunshine (Neukölln), Ceramic Kingdom (Neukölln), and Barsega Studio (Friedrichshain).
